Palais Royale has loads of luminous photo spots. The white marble and columns are great for that perfect lighting, and it usually isn't too crowded!

5. Hidden Side Streets

You'll be surprised how many beautiful streets you'll find in Paris, and they make for perfect backdrops. Many of the streets long the Seine in the 16th district are incredibly picturesque, especially in the fall. Get lost exploring and enjoy your time in Paris!

3 Ways to Make Your Wedding Planning Easier! | For Engaged Couples

Hey Bride/Groom/friend in the middle of wedding planning. I know- it can be a lot. Lots of little details and choices to make and it can be easy to get overwhelmed. But it’s ok! Slowly but surely, you will check things off your list, you will pick out table settings, you will get your invites sent off, and your wedding will be here before you know it! As someone who has walked through 100 or so weddings with couples, here’s just a little advice while you’re waiting for your big day.

1- Prioritize. You are only two people and you have a lot going on! Pick the top three things that you care about for your wedding and make sure you’re present for those meetings/decisions. Hire a wedding planner you trust and let them take care of the other details!

2- Don’t try to make all your decisions at once. There are a few key things to have in place first: date, venue, planner, photographer… but after that, give yourself a little break! Don’t feel like you have to have every detail planned within a week of getting engaged!

3- Go on a date and don’t talk about the wedding! The best part about your wedding is that after it’s over, you’re married! A wedding is a great project to work on together, but also look at this time as a way to grow closer and to talk about your dreams for your future life together!

The Problem is, You Don't Realize You're SO Worth It
Untitled_0129.jpg

We rarely had "professional" photos taken of my family growing up. I remember being sad about it in middle school and I coordinated a time for us to get our photo taken at JC Penny. I picked out everyone's outfits and made sure we all matched, marched our butts to the mall, and then proudly hung that photo in our hallway next to the one we had taken at church 10 years before that. When my dad got sick, we hired a talented high end photographer, who is now my dear friend, to photograph our family. I remember crying when I called her because I couldn't stand thinking that we might not have recent family photos before my dad died. Of course my dad was tough of nails and stuck around for a few more years. When my brother got married this spring, I begged them to hire an awesome photographer, which I'm so glad they did. Those are the last real photos we have of my dad because he died just a few weeks later.

I often see the inward struggle when people contemplate investing in great photos. I totally get it - life and weddings are expensive, but I also want to tell people- if you invest in one thing, please invest in your memories! You and your family are priceless and we are never promised tomorrow.

So treat yourself to great photography. You deserve it and your family will be forever grateful.

I Have a Bone to Pick with Styled Shoots | For Brides and Photographers

Styled Shoots: What they are and what they are not.

The wedding world is buzzing with talk about styled shoots these days. Love ‘em? Hate ‘em? Have no idea what I’m even talking about?

Let’s clear the air and get down to business with a quick rundown on styled shoots, both for photographers and their brides.

What is it?

Styled Shoot n (stīld sho͞ot): A photo shoot involving a team of wedding vendors who come together to stage a fake wedding or bridal shoot.

Styled shoots give vendors the opportunity to pool their resources to create something beautiful and inspiring that represents their personal style as a wedding professional. It’s a chance for photographers and wedding creatives to stretch their creative muscles and truly shape the results.

For photographers: why participate in a styled shoot?

When I do styled shoots, it’s often because I have a vision in my head of something I have dreamed of photographing for a long time. I invest my time, money, and resources into making that vision come to life, so that the final results are exactly what I intended. Like an artist beginning a new painting, I have control of how the scene looks, the location, the feel, the outfits, the subject matter… it’s all about my own creative expression, which fuels my artistic spirit! It’s also a chance to shoot in new locations. Maybe I’m traveling to a new/beautiful/exotic city, or want to explore a new space in my own hometown. I use styled shoots as an opportunity for growth and a chance to inspire clients who are getting married in that city!

Networking is another great reason for wedding creatives to get involved in styled shoots. A new florist may contribute her services to a style shoot to meet local photographers and wedding planners. A local venue may need new images for their website or social media outlets. Styled shoots are a great way to generate content for blog posts or social media!

What it is not!

Brides searching the web for the perfect vendors for their big day should be aware that a styled shoot is NOT an accurate representation of what your wedding day will be like.

Wedding days are full of movement, candid moments, hugs, kisses, and moving pieces. Styled shoots are in a controlled environment and will often focus on portraits and details instead of storytelling and celebrating. Wedding days are also full of things that are beyond your vendors’ control. They can’t be easily rescheduled for rain, and you can’t stop the ceremony for a second try at a perfect first kiss.

During a styled shoot, photographers and vendors have hours to get the perfect set of portraits and detail shots. On your wedding day, they might only have 15-30 minutes for each. While it’s tempting to get caught up in making your wedding “Pinterest Perfect,” it’s most helpful for you to use styled shoots, and Pinterest in general, as a source of inspiration for your unique day. I encourage my clients to keep their focus on enjoying their day with their loved ones.

Tips for Brides:

The best thing you can do is hire smart. Look for:

·      Vendors who know how to work quickly and efficiently and will be a joy to be around.

·      A photographer who you know is comfortable with fast-paced environments, multiple weather conditions, and is calm under pressure.

·      Vendors you trust and can release to do their jobs well!

Hire well and keep your expectations and priorities in line and you will be able to relax and enjoy your day and celebrate your marriage and family which is the most important part!

Tips for Vendors:

Considering a styled shoot as a way to grow your wedding business? A few things to keep in mind:

·      Styled shoots are not complete branding shoots for your website. They can be a great ways to create up-to-date content but can end up being very disjointed looking if you’re pulling together shoots from multiple photographers. Consider investing in your business and hiring a photographer to help you with your branding photography. They can help you streamline your look, communicate your vision, and attract your ideal clients.

·      Styled shoots are also not a sure-fire way to get published. For some in the wedding industry, getting published is the Holy Grail of success. At the same time, blogs and magazines are becoming way more selective in what styled shoots they are publishing, and are more interested in publishing real weddings. Don’t go in to a collaboration expecting it to be in a magazine. Instead, look at it as a way to build genuine relationships, communicate your style, inspire brides who are planning their weddings, and feed your creative soul!

6 Perfect Nashville Venues!

6 Perfect Venues for your Nashville Destination Wedding!

kristinsweetingtrinityview.jpg

Southern charm, lush landscape, fine food and endless entertainment options . . . . it's no wonder Nashville has become such a draw for big city couples hosting stateside destination weddings. Beyond the neon lights and honky-tonks of Broadway, Music City is home to a number of gorgeous venues for every style of wedding celebration.

I've gathered up six of my favorite Nashville wedding venues below, each equally lovely (and delightfully well-staffed) in their own unique way:

1) Cheekwood Botanical Gardens: European glamour set among rolling Tennessee hills, Cheekwood is a top pick for the traveled couple looking to combine architecture and nature for their big day. Choose from multiple ceremony and reception locations and dance beneath the stars in the lush gardens of Cheekwood just 10 minutes from downtown Nashville.

2) The Cordelle: For an intimate celebration of 200 or less, there's nothing more charming than The Cordelle, a transformed historic home with a gorgeous garden and beautiful loft. The Cordelle is a blank slate for the indoor/outdoor event of your dreams, located in the heart of downtown Music City.

3) Carnton Plantation: Head south from Nashville to the rolling hills of Franklin, TN to find the historic Carnton Plantation. The antebellum home and Civil War landmark features a 160-year-old Osage Orange Tree, lush gardens, and much more. Guests will love exploring the charming streets of Downtown Historic Franklin, a beautiful retreat from city life.

4) Scarritt Bennett Center: Let the striking cathedral ceilings and arched walkways of gothic architecture set the stage for your big day at Scarritt Bennett, a favorite venue for Nashville weddings. Built in 1928, the breathtaking Wightman Chapel, has been featured on PBS and once heard Martin Luther King, Jr. speak to a local crowd.

5) Trinity View Farm: With limited availability and an astounding 10-mile view of the Tennessee hills, an invite to Trinity View Farm is a hot ticket for even local guests. Just 18 minutes south of Nashville, you'll fall in love with the white oak timber frame barn and jaw-dropping views as soon as you set foot on the 132-acre farm.

6) Travellers Rest Plantation: A hidden gem tucked away in a sweet Nashville neighborhood, Travellers Rest is a beautiful outdoor/indoor venue with a private formal garden, beautiful magnolia trees, and a historic public house. The indoor venue seats about 150, but there are also options for outdoor ceremony and reception combinations to create the elegant southern affair of your dreams.
